EGR hopes to turn midpack teams into one, elite organization

By Bob Pockrass — Associate Editor
Friday, March 20, 2009

Team owner Chip Ganassi bristles at suggestions that financial turmoil sparked the combination of Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Chip Ganassi Racing.

Instead, he contends that the creation of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing was driven by the desire by both teams to improve their performance, which, of course, helps attract sponsors, which, in turn, often translates into even more success.

Energizer

Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Energizer Team

It Keeps Going and Going… The No. 42 Chevrolet will sport the Energizer paint scheme this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Viva Las Vegas: JPM will be making his third NSCS start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. His best start was fourth in his Rookie season (2007) and best finish of 19th came last year.

Last week: The Target team finished 11th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Auto Club Speedway of California. Montoya moved to 10th in the NASCAR Championship point standings, marking a NASCAR career high for Montoya. The Target team started 15th for the 500-mile event and never looked back as they maintained a top-15 position for the entire 250 laps.

Team Preview: Earnhardt-Ganassi (+Video)

The combined forces of what is now known as Earnhardt Ganassi Racing should be better than what each team produced last year as a separate entity.

But that’s not saying a whole lot.

Both Chip Ganassi Racing and DEI suffered through a series of on-track and financial problems in 2008 that eventually led to the two entities merging.

Target для #42
CONCORD, N.C. (Jan. 20, 2009) – Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates объявили, что их партнер Target переходит на машину No. 42 car Хуана Пабло Монтойи.

Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing

Labonte to #8? Target to #42?

There have been numerous Bobby Labonte sightings at Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, but the latest twist places the 2000 Cup champion in the #8 Chevy where he would be reunited with his former Petty crew chief Doug Randolph. Randolph moved to DEI last year to become crew chief for Paul Menard. Labonte worked with Jeff Meendering on the #43 Petty Dodge in 2007. Meendering has since left to be the car chief for Tony Stewart. It’s also been rumored that the Target sponsorship will move to the #42 Dodge and Juan Pablo Montoya. (Fox Sports)
