Earnhardt Ganassi Goes Short-Track Racing in Martinsville
Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Target Team
MEDIA ALERT: Juan Pablo Montoya will be available in the media center for a brief media Q&A session on Friday, Oct. 23 at 10:15 a.m. ET.
The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup: Montoya’s top five streak came to an end last weekend at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. An on-track incident on lap 125 caused damage to the No. 42 Target Chevrolet and Montoya fell back in the field. The team settled for a 35th place finish and fell three spots in the Chase standings. Montoya now sits sixth in the standings -195 points out of first and 65 away from third with five races remaining.
The Chase Stats: At the midway point of the Chase, Montoya is tied with Johnson for the most top-five finishes with four, has the second highest average starting position of 7.8, the second highest percentage of the fastest laps run during a race, and the second highest driver rating at 112.3.
Martinsville History: Juan Pablo Montoya will be making his sixth NSCS start at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. This marks the sixth race of the Chase. Montoya has an average starting position of 23.4 and an average finishing position of 12th. He has completed 100% of the laps and has led nine laps. His best finish at Martinsville came in the fall 2007 race where he finished eighth. Montoya has never finished worse than 16th at the half-mile facility.
About Lowe’s: What started out as a promising run at Lowe’s Motor Speedway for team Target, as Montoya took his No. 42 Lysol Chevrolet from 18th place up to second, quickly turned dismal on lap 125 of Saturday night’s race. Montoya was lined up in the 11th position on a restart when the cars in front of him checked up causing a chain reaction. The No. 42 took a hard hit to the right rear quarter panel causing significant damage. The wounded race car would not be able to rebound from the incident and Montoya would wind up in the 35th position at the end of a very long night.
