Lap 440 — Kevin Harvick takes his car to the garage. Kurt Busch remains on the track. Tony Stewart is stuck on the track and is in need of a push to get started.

Lap 438 — YELLOW FLAG NO. 8: Crash in the middle of the field collects several cars. Sam Hornish Jr. bumps Casey Mears causing Mears to get into Kurt Busch and Busch goes around. Kevin Harvick and Busch get some serious damage. Jimmie Johnson, Brian Vickers and Clint Bowyer also involved. Carl Edwards gets the free pass.

Lap 435 — Michael Waltrip falls all the way to 11th. Kurt Busch slow on the track and he is down to 16th.

Lap 433 — LEAD CHANGE: Kyle Busch pushes Michael Waltrip up the track to take the lead and collect five bonus points.

Lap 386 — Jimmie Johnson has a 1.4-second lead but is closing on lap traffic.

Lap 380 — Chase bubble update: Mark Martin is second, Kyle Busch is fourth, Clint Bowyer is ninth, Ryan Newman is 10th, Greg Biffle is 11th, Matt Kenseth is 12th, Brian Vickers is 22nd and Kasey Kahne is 30th.

Lap 373 — Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman pass Greg Biffle for ninth and 10th.

Lap 370 — Crew chiefs will have to make a decision. There is enough fuel in all these cars to make it to the end but they will have to stay out on their tires for almost 150 laps.

Lap 366 — Mark Martin and Kyle Busch in battle for second. Kurt Busch also getting involved.

Lap 362 — Kyle Busch up to second on the restart as Kurt Busch falls to fourth.

Lap 317 — LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson passes Mark Martin for the lead as Martin can’t get around the No. 9 car of Kasey Kahne.

Lap 312 — Mark Martin is stuck behind lap traffic allowing Jimmie Johnson to catch him. Kurt Busch and Kyle Busch have also closed the gap and have caught the leader.

Lap 308 — Kasey Kahne is now two laps down and will fall in the point standings. Carl Edwards in danger of also going two laps down.

Lap 300 — Jeff Gordon now down to 22nd as the handling on his car has definitely gone south.

Lap 292 — Kyle Busch passes Martin Truex Jr. for fourth. Jeff Gordon continues to fall as he has damage from contact with Denny Hamlin causing the earlier tire rub.

Lap 289 — Jeff Gordon down to 16th. Denny Hamlin up to ninth.

Lap 286 — Kyle Busch passes Marcos Ambrose for fifth.

Lap 280 — Jeff Gordon has a tire rub and may have to pit. He is currently running 13th.

7:33 p.m. — The children of the drivers and crews perform the national anthem.

7:32 p.m. — Dave Stauffer, Army Chaplain, gives the Invocation.

6:30 p.m. — ESPN’s coverage is under way.

6:06 p.m. ET — It’s a gorgeous day in Thunder Valley and tonight is setting up to be an amazing night of racing at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile. It’s currently 80 degrees with temperatures expected to be in the upper 60s when the sun goes down. No rain is expected and we should get all 500 laps of the Sharpie 500 in.
