Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Target Team

Monster Mile History: Juan Pablo Montoya will be making his fifth NASCAR Sprint Cup start at Dover on Sunday. His best finish at the one-mile oval came in September of ’07 when he started on the front row and took the checkered flag in 10th place. In this race last year, Montoya took the green flag in 35th position and drove to a 12th-place finish. He has an average start of 22nd and an average finish of 23rd at the “Monster Mile.”

Golfing for Autism: On Thursday, Montoya will play in the 8th Annual Drive for Autism Research Celebrity-Am Golf Outing to be held at the world-class DuPont Country Club located in the Brandywine Valley, Wilmington, Del. The money from the golf outing will go directly to the Autism Society of Delaware whose mission is to improve the lives of people with autism and their families. Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. It is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain. Autism associated behaviors have been estimated to occur in as many as 1 in every 150 births.

Last Weekend: Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 Target Team had a solid weekend at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with an eighth-place finish after heavy rain ended the race early on Monday afternoon. The eighth-place finish marks Montoya’s best finish at the 1.5-mile oval.

In the Points: The No. 42 team remains 14th in the overall NSCS driver point standings after their fourth top-10 finish of the season at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Montoya is only 31 points away from the top 12 and 325 points behind leader Jeff Gordon.

2009 In Numbers: As of the Charlotte race weekend, Juan Pablo Montoya has one pole award, four top-10 and seven top-15 finishes so far in the 2009 season. Last year, Montoya amassed two top-five, three top-10 and seven top-15 finishes throughout the entire 2008 season. Montoya currently sits 14th in the NSCS Driver Standings, 31 points out of 12th position, the cutoff for the “Chase to the Sprint Cup.” At this point last season, Montoya and the No. 42 team were sitting 17th in points, 191 points out of the 12th. The team has an average starting spot of 14th and finishing position of 16th.

No. 42 Target Chevrolet (NSCS): Chassis #802. The Target team last used this chassis in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway when Montoya drove to his first top-10 finish of the season.

No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet (NSCS): Chassis #082 Crew Chief Kevin “Bono” Manion has elected to bring Chassis number #082 to Dover International Speedway this weekend. Truex and the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops team last used this chassis to lead 61 laps en-route to a sixth-place finish at Darlington Raceway.
