MEDIA ALERT: Juan Pablo Montoya will be available at the No. 42 Target transporter for a brief media question and answer session on Friday, June 19 at 11:15 a.m. PT. (19:15 по Москве)
Return to Sonoma: This weekend Juan Pablo Montoya returns to the sight of his historic first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win. In 2007 Montoya drove to a 4.097-second victory over Kevin Harvick in the NSCS road-course race in Sonoma. It was Montoya’s first Cup victory in just his 17th start. Last year Montoya raced his way to a third place finish after taking the green flag in 21st position. In two starts at the 1.99-mile road course Montoya averages a 26th-place start and a third-place finish.
Sonoma Record Breaker:
• Became the only rookie to win at Infineon Raceway
• First Latino to win a race in NASCAR’s top series
• Set a record for winning from the deepest starting spot at Infineon Raceway (32nd)
• Joined racing legends Dan Gurney and Mario Andretti as the only drivers to win races in the Cup, IndyCar and Formula One
• The Bogota, Colombia-native became just the third foreign-born driver to win a NASCAR Cup event.
Last Weekend: Juan Pablo Montoya and the Target team started seventh and finished sixth at Michigan International Speedway– his sixth top-10 finish in 2009. Only 15 races into the season, Montoya has already matched his season total for top-10 finishes (six) and top-15 finishes (nine) set in 2007.
In the Points: The sixth top-10 finish moved Montoya to 14th in the 2009 NSCS Championship driver point standings. The team is 422 points behind leader Tony Stewart and 43 points out of 12th, the cutoff for the Chase.
GM Fast Fact: Buick and Jaguar (122 PP100 each) tie for the highest-ranking nameplates in vehicle dependability from the 2009 JD Power and Associates 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study Results. In the midsize car ranks, the Buick LaCrosse is ranked number one.
